Husky 22 in. Modular Container System (Models 230381, 236738, & 236667)

Earlier this year we were introduced to the Husky 22 in. modular container system.  This is a PRO-level, yet relatively inexpensive container system.  The suite is built around the flagship Husky 22 in. Connect Rolling Tool Box and is modular in design. You can also add on an additional Med. Toolbox, 10 or 22-piece small parts organizer, or 5-compartment tool caddy as required. We found the design to be sturdy and appealing in a minimalist way.  We are constantly moving tools to the job site or while on it so a dependable and durable container system is a must!  It is also a wise investment.  It’s easier and cheaper to replace a protective container than a critical tool.

Connect Rolling Toolbox (model 230381)

We were excited to check out the new Husky 22 in. modular container system and share our thoughts. First up is the Connect Rolling Toolbox, which has a few important key features.  Of note, this comes as a 3-piece starter set. We loved the size of the large rolling toolbox.  We also appreciated Husky’s design with the telescoping handle; they set the collapsed height just low enough so it allows the user to open a stacked medium toolbox without having to disconnect it from the rolling base. The wheels are large enough to easily handle stairs or gravel. The one minor drawback we noted was the lack of a tray option integrated into the rolling base design.

Connect Medium Toolbox (model 236738)

Next, we stacked the Connect Medium Toolbox onto the rolling base toolbox.  This is the foundational building block of the set.  The rolling base is not sold separately, so the medium toolbox is meant to be added as needed.  It is well sized to fit medium cordless or corded power tools like hammer drills, circular saws, or sanders. The overall size makes this a very versatile container. Some larger/longer tools may not fit well and must be stored in the mobile base (like a large worm-drive circular saw or a reciprocating saw).

10-Compartment Small-Parts Organizer (model 236667)

Lastly, we added the 10-compartment small parts organizer to the mix to test it out.  This may have been our favorite part of the modular kit.  We always appreciate the time and hassle saved by organized small parts.  The clear lid made it very easy to grab the right organizer (since we had a few going). The lid also fits firmly enough over the tops of the small parts bins that there were no instances of spillage inside the container while moving.  We loved that!  We also appreciated the ability to remove the containers when required or re-arrange between multiple 10-piece organizers as required. The handle design was also solid during transport and when hand carrying.

Final Thoughts

We were big fans of the Husky 22 in. modular container system.  It is a rugged and inexpensive container system.  The interlocking design worked well and stayed secure no matter where or when we decided to move our equipment. The locking mechanism is simply designed and rugged enough to last.  We appreciated the different size options.  Our only recommendation would be for Husky to consider adding a standalone, large-sized toolbox (with a lid), comparable in size to the rolling base, for upgrade purchase.  This would allow the kit to expand better to fit an even wider variety of job site required tools.

For the money, the Husky 22 in. modular container system is a great investment. There are more expensive set-ups on the market. For a no-frills design though, the Husky system performed well enough to make a basic part of our on-site kit.  This may not be the system for you if you buy tools from other manufacturers that come pre-packaged in a stackable container though.

Home Depot PROspective Event Highlights

A couple weeks ago, we attended the first all tools media event put on by The Home Depot. Whenever we go to one of these events we feverishly post to our various social media feeds so that you all can follow in near realtime. If you were unable to follow, here’s a summary article of all of our postings from the event.

What was great about The Home Depot PROspective event over some of the others we’ve been to is The Home Depot brought in all of their major tool vendors together under one roof. Milwaukee, Bosch, Makita, Diablo, Ridgid, Ryobi, Dewalt, Paslode, Dremel, Husky, and some automotive product brands were all there. Some highlights were the new abrasives from Diablo, new modules for Ryobi GDO, Dewalt’s Flexvolt, updated nailers from Paslode, and the cordless rear handled circular saw from Makita. Many other cool tools were there too, check them out below.

Of course the event was about the tools but one of our greatest takeaways is how passionate Home Depot employees are about their work and enabling others to build and fix their homes. No question those guys all bleed orange. This fervor doesn’t end at their customers though. The Home Depot is very passionate and active in local communities. At the event we got to help out a the local furniture bank assembling and building furniture for those with little or no furniture in their homes. It was probably my favorite part of the whole event.

Husky 22 in. Pro Grade Rolling Tote Model GP-44449N13 Review

The proper storage bag is the one that most perfectly matches the application. For mobile jobs I see a lot of guys carrying around a mix of bags and boxes.

But I’ve noticed that over the last few months some contractors are resorting to rolling totes to carry their “go-to” tools to the job every day.

Husky 22 inch Pro Grade Rolling Tote

The Husky 22 inch Pro Grade Rolling Tote is one that I’ve seen so I grabbed one to see what the hype was all about. This bag is constructed out of 1680-denier, heavy-duty, water-resistant material and is durable.

For a soft-sided case, it is seriously beefy and well made with a heavily reinforced bottom and back and a very strong extendable handle. When full of parts and tools, this tote is pretty heavy. However, the two strong straps across the top make lifting it into the truck.

The Husky 22 in. Tote has a heavy-duty telescoping handle and 3 heavy-duty, ball-bearing, wheels to keep the bag balanced when loaded with tools.

This tote features a 150-pound carrying capacity and boasts 38 storage pockets.

A fold-over rain flap with waterproof zipper is designed to keep water out of main compartment.

Maneuverability and Accessibility

This 22-inch Rolling Tote when fully loaded handles a heavy load without any problem and rolls easily on reasonably flat surfaces and lawns. It is NOT designed for rough terrain job sites.

It’s many are perfect for tool storage. The numerous interior and exterior mini-pockets are great for miscellaneous quick access tools, and inner back wall straps are perfect for my various individual hand tools such as pliers, vice grips, wire strippers, side cutters, clamps and so on. The large space in the middle of the tote works well for things like a drill, driver, cords, chargers and other bulky tools.

Mobile Contractors Delight!

The Husky 22 inch Pro Grade Rolling Tote is a perfect “go-to” rolling tool bag for mobile contractors, and will save time back and forth to the truck looking for tools and parts.
